Miami International Airport Transportation and Parking
Miami International Airport is conveniently located six miles away from Miami's bustling downtown. Surrounded by hotels, the best way to get around is with cheap MIA car rentals. Pick them up, take full advantage of Miami at your leisure, then drop them off and utilize a shuttle or other convenient modes of transport for getting to MIA.
Buses
Unfortunately, Miami and the surrounding regions aren't lauded for its bus services. There is a Metrobus system that was engineered specifically to intersect with the Metrorail and Metromover. They offer access to major business areas, shopping, cultural centers, major hospitals, schools, as well as most entertainment and attractions.
The Airport Flyer Express Bus travels between MIA, Miami Beach and downtown Miami. These are comfortable coach buses that can be boarded at Central Terminal E, Lower Level Bus Station. It runs every 30 minutes between 6 am and 11 pm daily.
Taxi Cabs & Limos
Taxi and limousine drop offs and pick-ups are accessible on the ground level of MIA outside of baggage claim areas. Depending on your destination, these transports can be quite expensive. Shuttle Buses & Trains
The Metrorail is Miami-Dade's rapid transit system. Beginning July 2012, it started running through MIA. The Metromover can either get you near your destination or nearest the best public transport for continuing the trip. There are maps at street level or near the entrance of Metromover stations. The Tri-Rail is South Florida's commuter rail. It runs along I-95 and makes a stop at MIA. It's currently closed in conjunction with the Miami Intermodel Center construction project. It's believed the Miami Airport Station will be closed for at least two years.
The American Shuttle travels from the airport between Miami and Port Everglades. It's a more affordable alternative to taxis and limos.
Most of the hotels in the area have shuttle buses that take you to and from their locations. They run on schedules and you should check with your hotel to see how that best accommodates your flight.
Parking
MIA offers valet parking, garage parking and economy with shuttles to and from the lots. Valet parking offers the closest and most convenient means for getting into MIA quickly. Leave the keys, let the attendant know when you're returning and get on your way. You will be provided with a telephone number so you can let attendants know you've returned.
The Dolphin and Flamingo garages are accessible on the arrival and departure levels of the airport. They offer daily rates or rates in 20 minute increments if you're seeing someone off. Economy parking is located outside the airport. It has the most affordable rates.
