Summer (June through August) is hot, and humidity is high, so pack comfortable, breathable clothes. Shorts and sandals are probably your best bet, especially near the lakes and river. There are beaches that offer swimming and sunbathing, so make sure to bring your swimsuit, beach towel and sunglasses.

Fall (September through mid-November) is probably the most beautiful season in Minneapolis, the air begins to get crisp. Enjoy fall colors and outdoor activities by packing a windbreaker and hat. You may also want to bring along an umbrella.

Minneapolis has a compact downtown which means that everything is within walking distance. So drive into the downtown area, park, and then put on comfortable shoes and explore on foot.

Parking
There are more than 65,000 parking spaces in the downtown area. Remember to bring change for the street meters. Downtown parking facilities cost from $9 - $20/day depending on location and time of day.

About town To see the whole metro area you really do need a rental car, especially if you are wanting to take a day trip outside the downtown area.

Tips on tipping
Tipping hospitality and service professionals is voluntary and at your discretion, but here are some general rules:

Driving Regulations In Minnesota
If you are a visitor in Minnesota and over 16 years of age and have a valid driver license from your home state or country, you may drive in this state without getting a Minnesota driver license as long as your home state license remains valid. Seat belts must be worn by all drivers and passengers in the front seat, including any passenger who is age four or older. Those passengers that are of ages 4-10 must wear a seat belt in all seats. A child passenger restraint system is required for any child who is under the age of four, there is a fine for both not wearing a proper seat belt ($25) and not having a child in a safety seat ($50).
