An international driver's license is officially required to drive in Spain and can be obtained at the AAA. The minimum driving age in Spain is 18, but each car rental company will have its own policy on age requirements (the minimum car rental age can be between 21 and 25).

Some Driving Laws
Using a mobile while driving is banned in Spain; motorists must use handsfree kits without earphone pieces.
Seat belt usage is compulsory.
In Spain, a normal penalty for driving with excess of alcohol includes a statutory minimum period of 12 months driving licence suspension and a fine or weekend arrest. You do not need to have commited a moving traffic offence.
You must have a safety kit. You must carry two warning triangles in your vehicle. You must carry spare bulbs of the correct wattage for your lights. Vehicles are required to have at least two rear view mirrors. Drivers must have a clear view of at least 50 meters; thus caravans should be equipped with extension mirrors.
