DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
America Car Rental requires the following documentation in order to offer the service:
• Minimum age is 21 years old, no maximum age limit.
• Credit Card personalized with the cardholder's full name and at least 1-year-old.
• Identification (INE in the case of Mexican customers and passport with photo in the case of foreign customers).
• Valid driver's license (National or International) ORIGINAL with photo and full name of the person and with at least one year of validity, NO MATTER THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN. Digital driver’s license are not accepted.
*WE DO NOT ACCEPT DIGITAL CREDIT CARDS OR CREDIT CARDS FROM DIGITAL PLATFORMS (NU, STORI, INVEX, ETC. AND/OR FINANCIAL SOFOM).
*WE DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT CARDS ISSUED BY DEPARTMENT STORES.
*WE DO NOT ACCEPT BANK CARDS FROM BANBAJIO, DISCOVERY, BANCO AZTECA, BANCOPPEL.
In certain situations, America Car Rental will ask the customer at the counter for a proof of address and return flight information for the safety of the customer and the car.
America Car Rental reserves the right to decline a reservation if the client does not have complete rental requirements or finds any inconsistency in the documentation.
COVERAGES
The following coverages may or may not be included in your reservation depending on the type of rate and region. Liability Insurance (PLI) is the only mandatory insurance included in all rates as required by the authorities in Mexico.
PLI (Liability Insurance) It is a liability coverage for damages to third parties in your person or property, caused by the rented vehicle. This protection has a coverage of $750.000.00 pesos.
• Does NOT include legal assistance
CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) is a protection that reduces the payment responsibility in case of partial or total damages caused to the rented vehicle to a deductible according to the requested vehicle, which will be applied when the damages are greater than the deductible stipulated for collision, fire or theft. In case of damages lower than the deductible, the total value of the damage caused will be charged.
NOTE: In the case that your reservation does not have CDW coverage, you must purchase this coverage directly at the counter. In case of not acquiring it, the corresponding guarantee amount will be applied and the client will be 100% responsible for damages and/or up to the total value of the vehicle.
• America Car Rental does NOT have agreements with third parties such as credit cards, websites, brokers, insurance companies and/or banking institutions for the protection of damages caused to the vehicle. These type of protection is handled in a reimbursable way so the only person protected is the cardholder or the insured and he/she should review the process with his/her insurance company, for this reason it is NOT APPLICABLE IN OUR RENTAL CONTRACT.
• This coverage does not include other parts of the vehicle (such as glass, tires, rims, etc.), administrative costs or accessories (such as GPS, child seats, personal items, etc.).
TP (Theft Protection) This protection is a coverage that partially releases the renter from liability for the total loss of the vehicle due to theft. If the customer does not accept the TP, in case of total theft of the vehicle, the customer will be responsible for the replacement cost of the vehicle, up to the maximum amount of liability equivalent to the value of the vehicle. If the client accepts the TP, he/she will only be responsible for the payment of the vehicle deductible. In the case that your reservation does not have TP coverage, you must purchase this coverage directly at the counter.
Important:
If your credit card already includes the coverages Collision and Damage Waiver and Theft Protection to the vehicle, it is necessary to leave a deposit for the total value of the vehicle. As well as to present a printed letter issued by your bank dated close to the rental period in where it specifies that the cardholder has the requested amount available and indicates that you have the CDW/TP coverage.
The letter that the customer presented must be valid in the destination country. It must contain a telephone number, a verifiable e-mail for confirmation of the cardholder and the specifications of the coverage included in your credit card.
This letter must be endorsed by the Comisión Nacional de Seguros y Fianzas, which regulates all insurance companies in Mexico.
It is important to clarify that the agreement is between the bank and the client, America Car Rental has no agreement with any bank or third party for CDW / TP (Collision and Theft) coverage. In case of total loss or theft, the client must inform America Car Rental at the time and then request clarification with the bank.
In case of not having the amount available for the total value of the vehicle, it will be necessary to acquire CDW/TP’s coverage.
Third party insurance (from brokers, OTA's, travel agencies):
• Additional coverages purchased through the broker's website will be valid if the customer has the requested deposit amount available, therefore, in case of collision damage and theft, the client will be responsible for the damages.
• The client must contact the broker directly to validate the insurance purchased with them.
• Additional coverage purchased through the broker's website does not reduce the amount of the security deposit specified in your reservation.
Depending on the region and rate group selected, your reservation may include Collision Damage Waiver and Theft Protection insurance from America Car Rental.
SECURITY DEPOSIT
America Car Rental will request a security deposit which is a hold on your credit card, the amount of the hold will depend on the category of the vehicle and can be from 3500 USD to 5000 USD.
This amount will not be charged; it is as such a guarantee valid during the rental period. Once the rental period is over, America Car Rental will unblock the selected amount. It is worth mentioning that the release will be based on the terms and conditions provided by your bank.
WE DO NOT ACCEPT CASH
For security reasons we do not accept deposits for the guarantee in cash and/or debit cards (only accepted in rental payment), in any type of currency, we only accept credit cards that must comply with the following requirements.
* Must be personalized and at least 1-year-old.
* We DO NOT ACCEPT credit cards issued by department and digital stores or digital platforms (NU, STORI, INVEX, ETC AND / OR FINANCIERAS SOFOM).
In the Mexico City branch an additional 100 USD applies according to the group requested.
ADDITIONAL DRIVERS
America Car Rental we offer the option of additional drivers, which can be purchased through this website or directly at the counter.
The additional driver must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver's license (National or International) ORIGINAL with photo and full name of the person and with a minimum of one year of validity, NO MATTER THE COUNTRY OF ORIGIN.
RETURN OF THE VEHICLE
At the end of the rent, the customer must return the vehicle to the location stipulated on the face of the contract.
America Car Rental offers a 30-minute tolerance period for the return of the vehicle, after this time the following conditions apply:
For each additional hour, there will be a charge of 15 USD depending on the rented vehicle up to a maximum of 3 hours, after 3 hours of delay, the full day will be charged.
America Car Rental offers the alternative of returning the rental vehicle at any of its locations nationwide, this service will have an additional and independent charge of the rent which will be applied at the time of vehicle pick-up and is variable according to the distances between the departure and return location. Ask at the counter the cost of the drop-off per location
FUEL POLICY
Fuel is NOT included in the total cost of the rent.
The vehicle is provided with a certain amount of fuel and must be returned with the same amount as stipulated in the rent agreement in order to avoid additional charges. No refunds will be given for unused fuel.
If returned less than received, additional charge may apply per each liter less:
• Category A vehicles: 10 USD per missing eighth.
• Category B vehicles: 15 USD per missing eighth.
• Category C vehicles: 20 USD per missing eighth.
EXTRAS
America Car Rental offers additional services such as baby seats and GPS.
• These services are purchased only at the counter during check-in.
• These services are subject to availability.
- Child seat: $8 USD por día.
- GPS: $10 USD por día.
If an additional service is damaged or stolen, you will have to pay the replacement costs (baby seat and/or GPS).
GEOGRAPHICAL RESTRICTIONS.
America Car Rental offers border crossing to Belize and Guatemala.
Cross border is allowed from Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum ONLY.
The Belize permit is issued at the time of pick up. The permit for Guatemala requires 48 hours to be delivered in business days. Notaries and government offices do not work on weekends and holidays, so the delivery time of the document will be subject to the availability of the notary's office, which can vary from 48 to 72 hours.
If the client requires the letter at the moment of pick up the vehicle, he/she will have to cover two additional days of rent, since the vehicle will be blocked to be able to initiate the notarial process. The costs of the permits are:
• Belize: 20 USD
• Guatemala: $180 USD
America Car Rental has branches in the north of the Mexican Republic but does not authorize the crossing of borders with its vehicles.
These documents will be delivered only at America Car Rental locations (they cannot be sent by mail, since the document must be presented physically), so the customer must inform at the time of making the contract the nearest location to receive it.
The aforementioned documentation must be requested to the Reservations or Customer Service Departments for scheduling and payment business days prior to your pickup date. We do not allow border crossings to Belize and Guatemala from the Merida branch.
Border crossing to the United States is not allowed.
TOLLS AND FINES
Tolls or road tolls are the direct responsibility of the customer; they are NOT included in your rental.
In case of an accident or road assistance that generates fines or towing service expenses will be exclusively paid by the Client, it is NOT covered by any coverage.
ROAD ASSISTANCE
America Car Rental offers roadside assistance to all its customers without exception, there will only be an additional charge if the customer does not purchase SRA (Roadside Assistance) coverage.
In the event that the road assistance is generated by negligence, mishandling and/or misuse of the vehicle, the client will be charged a fee, which will be according to the quote for the damages generated.
It is important to mention that America Car Rental offers vehicles with conditions for tourist and normal day-to-day use, not for use on sandy beaches, beaches, unpaved roads or rocky areas.

ACCIDENTS & INCIDENTS
In case of an accident the driver must immediately and directly inform America Car Rental to follow up with the insurance company, which requires that the driver must be at the place of the accident, the driver must be authorized in the rental contract, and must present your current driver's license with photo.
In the case that the client does not follow the process after an accident or road accident, the protection is automatically declined.
