The New Year is Almost Here - It's Time to be Safe!

New Year's Eve is just around the corner.  What an exciting time of year when we begin a new chapter of life!  I personally have many resolutions that I am hoping to fulfill as I am sure do all of you.  It's the time of year to reflect on past decisions and to anticipate new opportunities.

As everyone knows, New Years Parties are celebrated all over the world to acknowledge the bringing in of a new year.  Family, friends, co-workers, etc. get together to celebrate and enjoy.  And while there is much fun and festivity in the air, it is also super important to be responsible and take care.  It's no secret that people like to drink alcohol (often a lot of it!) at New Year's Parties.  There is nothing wrong with drinking to enjoy but cautions must be taken in order to avoid catastrophe.  Some suggestions are listed below:

1.  If you are visiting family or friends outside your hometown and have rented a cheap car, make sure to park your rental somewhere safe for the night.  Perhaps drive to your party and then leave the keys with the host until the next morning.  You can take a taxi to where you are spending the night and pick up your cheap rental the next day.

2.  Have a designated driver to take you and your friends/family to the party.  Make sure that this person is added as an Additional Driver to your rental policy so that he/she can drive legally.  There is usually someone in a group who isn't so gung-ho on drinking so make sure to make this person your designated driver.  And as a little tip, it's always nice to buy the designated driver a little gift to say thank you for taking care of the rest of your crew.

3.  Take public transport or a taxi.  In many places around the world, roads are snowy and icy at this time of year.  It is not a safe time to be driving regardless, let alone if you are adding alcohol into the mix.  Busses and subways generally run quite late however if you find that you've partied into the wee hours of the night and there is no public transportation available, hop in a taxi.  If you are with friends and family, share the cost so that it's not too expensive.  It's much better to do this than to attempt driving in the frigid weather.

4.  If you insist on driving your cheap car rental to the party then simply do NOT drink.  There are other options - alcohol-free refreshments are always available.  Trust me, in the long run you will be grateful that you did not drink and drive!

All and all, I wish you all a Happy New Year full of health, happiness and success.  May 2018 be the best one yet!
