Richmond, Virginia is the capital of the state, and home to just under 200,000 residents. Richmond is located on the James River, and named after a town in England. The city was established by William Byrd II in 1737, and served as a Confederate capital from 1861-1865.
One of the major industries of the area is tobacco. The city was also the filming location for the 2001 movie "Hannibal" and 1991 movie "True Colors".

Driving Regulations
Foreign motorists, who visit the United States as bona fide tourists, can drive legally using their valid domestic driver's license, if it is accompanied by a valid international license. Driving in Virginia without a valid driver license is a serious offense. Being caught may result in a $1000 fine, a 6-month jail sentence and/or license revocation. Reckless driving can result in up to one year in jail, and/or up to $2,500 in fines. Seat belt usage is mandatory for all drivers and passengers. Children five years and younger must ride in a child safety seat.
Speed Limits
The speed limit for most business and residential areas is 25 mph for all vehicles. On secondary roads (those routes numbered 600 and above), the limits are 45 mph for trucks and 55 mph for other vehicles.
