Tulsa, Oklahoma is known as the "Oil Capital of the World". It is a city located on the Arkansas River that is home to 393,049 residents. One tradition says the community was named for a branch of the Creek Indian tribe; but there is another that says it was named for an old Creek town in Alabama. Oil was discovered in the city in 1901. The area was the filming location for the 1996 movie "Phenomenon" and the 1983 movie "Rumble Fish".
