Manchester is New Hampshire's largest city and industrial center, located on the Merrimack River, Though often confused with the city by the same name in England; few know that it was actually named after England's Manchester. Manchester was once home to the world's largest cotton textile mill, as well as the comedian and actor, Adam Sandler.

When visiting Manchester, make sure to see the Currier Gallery of Art, which displays American and European art, as well as a collection of furniture made by hand in New Hampshire. The gallery owns Frank Lloyd Wright's Zimmerman House, one of the smaller, less-expensive Usonian homes he designed. The Manchester Historic Association has exhibits about local history as well as Native American artifacts, period costumes, firefighting equipment, furniture and a library. The Scouting Museum and Library has artifacts and memorabilia related to the Boy Scouts.

Many Quebecois migrated to Manchester to work in the mills, which resulted in a French-Canadian flavor. Their culture is the focus of the Franco-American Center, which maintains records about the immigrants' history.
