Driving Regulations in Nevada
All drivers in the state of Nevada require a valid driver license. All temporary residents, students, and visitors, could drive with license from their home town. Everyone is obligated to follow the state's traffic laws.

All vehicles are required to yield to pedestrians in unmarked crossing areas at intersections, at crosswalks where there are no traffic signals, and crosswalks which are marked and signaled.

Seat belt use by all occupants in a vehicle is required by Nevada seat belt law. Children under age 5 who weigh less than 40 pounds must be in an approved and properly installed safety seat.

Nevada has a Basic Rule for driving at reasonable and proper speeds. This means that in addition to any posted speed limits, you must consider the amount and type of traffic, weather, road conditions and other factors. The proper speed may be less or in some cases a little more than the posted limit.

Drinking and Driving In Reno
Nevada has an open container law. Meaning, it is illegal to have opened alcoholic beverages in the driver or passenger areas of a vehicle while it is being driven.

As of September 23, 2003 legal blood alcohol level limit is changing from .10 percent to .08 percent. This legal limit is .02 percent for drivers under 21 years of age.

The first offense is a misdemeanor. Misdemeanors are punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. The minimum penalties for first offense are two days in jail or 48 hours of community service, a $400 fine. In addition, the Driver License will be revoked for 90 days upon arrest, and the Vehicle may be impounded.

It is also important to know, a DUI conviction from any state within seven years of the current DUI case will count as a prior conviction in Nevada.
