San Rafael is a small residential community located on San Rafael Bay. The city is accessible from San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge. The city is home to 56,063 people and was named after the patron saint of health.

There was a mission in 1817 that was founded in San Rafael to serve as a health retreat for both clergy and colonists. This area was also the location of several movie sets, of which include the 1988 "Tucker: The Man and His Dream", the 2001 "Sweet November", and the 1973 movie "American Graffiti".

Several well known people have come from the area, the most notable of course would be George Lucas the filmmaker.

There are many things to see and do while in San Rafael; there are many beautiful parks, including: China Camp State Park, McNear's Beach Park, and John F. McInnis Park. Also worth seeing is the Marin County Fair in early July and the Marin Symphony.
