Brooklyn

Brooklyn is one of the 5 boroughs of New York City, located across from Manhattan on the East River. The Borough has a population of 2,465,326 and was named for the Dutch settlement called Breukelen, which meant "broken land."

The locals in the area are known as Brooklynites. Some famous Brooklynites have once included Woody Allen (film director, actor, writer), Mel Brooks (comedian, actor, director), Mary Tyler Moore (actress), Marisa Tomei (actress), John Turturro (actor), and many more.

A moment in history: Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, becoming the first black player in major league baseball.
