  • There are some very long and boring stretches of road in Australia and fatigue is a big killer - make plenty of rest stops, drink plenty of coffee or cola and share the driving with someone else.

  • Be alert if you're driving in the countryside around dusk - kangaroos are active at this time and are unpredictable - often jumping into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

  • Driving in the outback? Watch out for trains.

  • The Northern Territory highways are excellent shape. They are contained and give year round access to all major attractions.

  • Be wary of wandering livestock! There are no fences to keep animals in, so you may encounter wandering animals once you leave town areas. Other wildlife to look out for: Cattle, camels, donkeys, brumbies, emues, wallabies, rabbits, lizards, dingoes, feral cats, foxes, birds and NOW cane toads!!

  • Water creatures to be aware of: saltwater crocodiles and box jellyfish. Do not be tempted to swim in the ocean and do not attempt to go rock diving.

  • This is not a driving tip, but be sure to carry plenty of bottled water with you on your trip. And sunblock as to prevent the red as a lobster burn you will get if you don't wear spf.

  • What to do if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere? Stay where you are. It's highly recommended not to go walking about. Wait near your vehicle until help arrives, and if you're in a group, do not stray.

  • The Most Important Things To Remember While Driving
Please do not drink and drive (0.05 is the Blood Alcohol Concentration limit in Australia), and do not speed. For your safety, wear seat belts, and avoid driver fatigue by resting frequently!
