The Federal legal limit is .08, however Newfoundland has .05 regulations that suspend driving priviledges at lower levels of alcohol than the these laws. If your blood alcohol concentration .05 or higher, your driver's licence will be suspended for 24 hours. If you can't physically give a breath sample, the police officer can ask you to let a doctor take blood samples to see if you're over the legal limit. For a first offence, there is a fine of $600 or more, and you will be prohibited from driving for a minimum of 12 months, to a maximum of 3 years. A second offence is 14 days in jail and prohibited from driving for a minimum of 24 months, to a maximum of 3 years.
